Letter 16 End of Semester December 4, 2000

The climax of the semester is close (classes end 6th December) followed by exams, and this seems to be causing some of the busiest days of my life. The last days are really hectic, similar to many other educational system. Very remarkably, the dates of beginning and end of terms of all universities in the United States are bound by almost the same dates.

A real good news poured in from Microsoft into my mailbox. They have invited me for the last stage on-site interviews at their headquarters in Redmond, Washington which is one of the most picturesque and celebrated places in US since that is where Mr. Bill Gates resides. This would be a great opportunity for me to see for real what Microsoft is all about, and of course carry further my candidature for the Internship. All these big names like IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Andersen, etc, which seemed too unapproachable a few years back now seem so approachable and affordable. This proves that studying here gets you the best in the world.

shoppingAmongst all this, Christmas celebrations have begun all over the town with everybody shopping and planning the Christmas break. Many of my friends have actually decided to work during christmas break since it is permitted to work full-time (40 hours/week) as compared to the limit (20 hours/week) which is followed during terms. Many of them are also going back to India since they have been here for quite a while and a bigger motivation is to visit India "not in summers" since getting used to the pleasant and the cold climates in this part of the world, summers in India, especially in Delhi, seriously appear dreadful.
