Studying in America and Canada
7.1.3 Accommodation Upon Arrival

You should plan on securing at least temporary accommodation prior to your arrival; that is, you should know where you will go immediately upon arrival at the airport in the new country.

Your college and particularly your international student advisor are the best source of information. Some colleges have dormitories (hostels by a different name) where you can find immediate steady accommodations. However, most colleges expect you to find steady accommodations yourself. Depending on your college and its facilities, you may have to find a hotel temporarily but your college should be able to help you.

Another valuable resource is the Indian Student Association at your college. Feel free to communicate with them. Other international students, who are already in the country, are empathetic to the challenges faced by a new international student. Some may offer you a temporary accommodation upon your arrival for free.
