Biography of Olivia Hussey

Olivia Hussey was born in Argentina, to opera singer Andreas Osuna (stage name: Osvaldo Ribo) and Joy Hussey. At age four, she started drama school, and by the age of thirteen she was costarring with Vanessa Redgrave in the London stage production of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Franco Zeffirelli saw this performance and was captured by her vitality. Said Zeffirelli at the time: "I chose her because she is life itself." Hussey starred in Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet (1968) as the youngest woman to ever play the part of Juliet professionally. She won a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer for this performance. Some of Hussey's other exceptional performances include Lost Horizon (1973) and Jesus of Nazareth (1977).

Although Hussey has given many memorable performances, it is her role as a mother that she enjoys the most. Her son, Alex, with Dean Paul Martin, was born in 1973. Max, her son with Japanese singer Akira Fuse, was born in 1983. Her daughter, India, with rocker David Glen Eisley, was born in 1993. Hussey continues to enjoy a quiet life as a mother, although she occasionally agrees to take on roles that don't interfere with the upbringing of her daughter. Ms. Hussey now resides outside of Los Angeles on her ten acre ranch with her family and menagerie of animals.
