Dear Mentor:

Where is a list of colleges of Information Science?

I find your site very informative and very useful. I am a regular visitor to your site, because I like to know about the best colleges and the programs they offer. I have a slight problem. I hope you have an answer for that. I want to know which colleges offer a Masters in Information Sciences. As your site doesn't have this option, I find it very difficult to find out about the program. Can you please suggest me how to find out about the program on your site? Or, can u suggest any other site? I hope you look in to the matter. Waiting for a real quick reply! Thanking you.

Highly Specialized, India

Dear Highly Specialized:

First of all, we would like to thank you for your kind words. We appreciate that you like iMahal and you visit iMahal frequently. We hope that you will tell your family and friends about all the good stuff on iMahal. It would also be nice if you could sign up with iMahal to use the iMahal Email and the iMahal Messenger, and tell your friends and family to do so as well. The iMahal Messenger is portable to any place where you can access the Internet and it integrates other instant messengers - like AOL, MSN, Yahoo, and ICQ instant messengers - into one.

Your interest in Information Sciences is somewhat specialized and not very common. We hope that your terminology is consistent with ours for Information Sciences. Information Science is a discipline that deals with the processes of storing and transferring information. It combines such disciplines as computer science and engineering, linguistics, psychology, and so on. Is this what you are really interested in? We are not sure. A Master's in Information Science is different from that in Computer Science or Information Systems, although they are related to some extent. Also, we are also not sure to which country you are referring. Please also note that terminology can vary between countries. For example, in Japan they say Information Science to mean the same thing as Computer Science or Information Systems in the US.

We do not conduct research for specific personal requests, as a matter of practice. Our purpose in writing the Dear Mentor: column weekly is to offer advice and guidance. We can not, nor do we want to, conduct research for individual requests. You can probably understand why. We get hundreds of emails every week. We respond to most emails directly, and only a few through the Dear Mentor: column. Since Information Sciences is either part of a Computer Science or Sciences, we would ask you to first visit the List of Computer Science Colleges in the US and the List of Science Colleges in the US in the iMahal Education Channel.
