SubjectShould the US intervene in conflicts around the world strictly for national interests, or are the humanitarian grounds reason enough? Reply to this message

Through the cold war, the rules of intervention were clear-intervene when national interests are at stake. But the world has changed dramatically in the past 10 years since the end of cold war. The threat of retribution by the Soviet block to an intervention by the US is no longer a factor. The Kuwait war was fought for national interests, while the Kosovo intervention was justified on humanitarian grounds.

If humanitarian intervention is truly part of US foreign policy, then many conflicts in Africa are the next candidates for US intervention.
