After years of the UN sanctions against Iraq, the results are mixed. Independent reports indicate that the sanctions have caused shortages of basic goods such as food and medicine, leading to poverty and deaths. On the other hand, Saddam Hussein remains defiant. His regime is considered to be a threat to his neighbors due to his ability to produce biochemical and nuclear weapons.
