SubjectWhat obligations, if any, non-resident Indians (NRI) have to India? Reply to this message

One view is that NRIs had to go abroad to seek opportunities, work hard, and become successful. India failed to afford them the opportunities, thus forcing them to leave India to become successful elsewhere. Their accomplishments did not come about because of being an Indian, but despite being an Indian. Thus they don't owe anything to India.

The other view is that NRIs are simply Indian. Honorable people would never deny their heritage. They would take pride in their heritage and culture. They would seek the well-being of their motherland. They should at least feel a special fondness for India. At the end of the day, an Indian is an Indian is an Indian. Thus they should contribute, through means within their reach, to the promotion of India.

What do you think?
