SubjectIs it fair to characterize India as a 3rd world country? Reply to this message

Now here is an interesting concept: the third-world versus the first-world (whatever happened to the second-world, anyway?), the civilized versus the non-civilized world, and the developed versus the developing nations, the non-aligned nations versus whatever nations. Some say that these labels are representative, while other consider these to be derogatory.

India is often referred to as a third-world country. Is this a correct characterization, using an appropriate label? Is this a correct characterization, using an inappropriate and derogatory label? Or, is it an incorrect characterization, using a totally inappropriate, inaccurate, and derogatory label?

What do you think?
